Veteran Stories
Veteran Stories: Honoring Service and Supporting Recovery
Cowtown Warriors is dedicated to serving and honoring wounded and disabled veterans in North Texas. Through direct assistance and community support, they have positively impacted the lives of many veterans. Here are some of their stories:
Patrick Myers: Rebuilding a Passion
Patrick joined the Marine Corps in 2002 as a field radio operator. In 2005, during a deployment to Iraq with the 2nd Marine Division’s Personal Security Detachment, his HUMVEE struck an IED, resulting in the amputation of both legs above the knee. After an honorable medical retirement, Patrick struggled to pursue his passion for working on motorcycles due to mobility challenges. Cowtown Warriors organized a charity skeet shooting event, raising over $20,000 to build a wheelchair-accessible motorcycle shop in his backyard. This support enabled Patrick to continue his craft and provide for his family in Joshua, Texas.
Peter: Overcoming Adversity
Peter enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2003, serving as a mortarman before joining the elite Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC). During a mission in Afghanistan's Helmand province in 2012, he was injured by a pressure plate IED but chose to remain with his team, earning a Purple Heart. After 12 years of service, Peter faced unemployment and medical bills that strained his family's finances. Cowtown Warriors provided over $15,000 in financial assistance, helping them recover and regain stability.
Jason Lilley: Aerial Support in Combat
Jason joined the Marines and became a crewman on a Huey helicopter. He was deployed to Iraq in 2003, participating in the initial invasion. During his time in Iraq, he flew numerous support missions for ground troops, including medical evacuations and resupply operations. His dedication ensured the safety and effectiveness of his fellow Marines on the ground.
Dario Heritage: Service in Vietnam
Dario enlisted in the Army in February 1968 as an armorer. He was deployed to Vietnam in July 1968, stationed near "Dragon Mountain" shortly after the Battle of Dak To. Due to a shortage of artillery personnel, Dario was reassigned to an artillery unit, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to service during a critical period in the Vietnam War.
Bill Hudson: A Navy Veteran's Journey
William “Bill” Hudson joined the Navy in January 1945 on his 17th birthday, with his father's consent. After overcoming health challenges during boot camp, he was deployed to the Pacific theater during World War II. Bill's service contributed to the Allied efforts in the Pacific, and his story reflects the dedication of young Americans during a pivotal time in history.
These stories exemplify the resilience and dedication of our veterans. Cowtown Warriors' support has been instrumental in helping them overcome challenges and continue contributing to their communities.

Past / Upcoming Events
Cowtown Warriors Clay Shoot: Shooting for a Cause
One of Cowtown Warriors’ most popular and impactful fundraising events is the Annual Clay Shoot — a high-energy gathering that combines sport, camaraderie, and heartfelt purpose. Held in the North Texas countryside, this event brings together veterans, supporters, sponsors, and outdoor enthusiasts to raise crucial funds for veterans in need. And the Clay Shoot isn’t just a sporting event — it’s a celebration of service, sacrifice, and community. Participants team up to shoot sporting clays across various stations, all while competing for prizes and bragging rights. More importantly, every dollar raised during the event directly supports Cowtown Warriors’ mission to provide essential resources for local wounded and disabled veterans.
Past events have included:
✔️ Team competitions across a beautifully designed clay course
✔️ Veteran-led teams showcasing their sharpshooting skills
✔️ Raffles and auctions featuring firearms, hunting gear, and exclusive experiences
✔️ Catered meals, live music, and fellowship with those who serve and support
A Powerful Impact
The Clay Shoot has raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years. These funds go toward immediate assistance for veterans—covering expenses like overdue rent, emergency car repairs, job search tools, and medical treatments not covered by the VA.
One memorable example is the Clay Shoot held to benefit Patrick Myers, a Marine Corps veteran and double amputee. Funds raised were used to build him a wheelchair-accessible workshop so he could pursue his passion for motorcycles and support his family.
